I tend to fixate on particular characters rather than ships so each of these fandoms will mainly focus on my favorite character with some delineation about specific likes in their various possible ships.

Top Gun

If writing military stuff please try to be at least somewhat accurate to actual military protocol (ex. The Daggers would not be given several months of leave after the mission.They would definitely be grounded and given fitness for duty evaluations but it's their job so no 3 months leave as a reward)

Jake Seresin: I like stories where Jake had a bad childhood - either bad parents (ex. homophobic or abusive) or being raised in foster care; the reason he's so bitchy and conceited is because it's a front for how deeply insecure and afraid he is all the time. I also head canon Jake as having lost his first wingman (as hinted at in the canon) and having developed PTSD from the experience. I also head canon Jake and Bradley as ex's (Jake got Javy in the "divorce" and Bradley got Phoenix) - this can lead to them getting back together or could have been so toxic it's not possible for them to reconcile. Jake and Javy bestie-ism for life, though if you want to make it romantic that works, too.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) Jake flies the mission instead of Bradley and is shot down but doesn't think anyone is coming to get him
2) Mav adopts Jake, either officially or unofficially
3) Jake is Ice's son (discovered later in life due to reasons) but Bradley doesn't know
4) Jake can see ghosts - Bradley and Mav have a few on their shoulders but they're nice (Jake's own ghosts aren't so nice)

The Avengers

Clint Barton: I follow a lot of the OG comic storylines for Clint (ex. drunk dad followed by orphanage followed by circus). I also headcanon him as deaf before the events of the Hawkeye series. He thinks he's dumb but he's actually really smart, just not a polished as others are. He has hella anxiety and imposter syndrome on a team of gods and superhumans.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) Clint disappears after Manhattan, not trusting himself or other around him to make sure he isn't mind controlled again. Nat has to find him to tell him Phil is actually alive
2) Time-loop incident after Clint touches something he shouldn't
3) Clint is injured in the field and cut off from help, Shield is ready to write him off, Nat and Phil aren't
4) Hanahaki fic - Clint thinks Phil could never love him and it's killing him. It's also what lets him know Phil is still alive

The Mummy

A ship specific fandom: Ardeth/Evy/Rick. POV any of them works.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) Something about their adventures has turned the trio immortal and they must learn to live with it
2) Rick and Evy go back to the desert to find Ardeth after realizing they're missing him too much to let him go
3) Evy's soul is taken to the underworld during all the chaos and Ardeth and Rick have to go there to get it back.

Star Trek (Alternate Original Series)

Leonard "Bones" McCoy: This is a second career for Bones. He is already an established doctor and very grumpy about having to go through the Academy training to prove himself. Jim helped him overcome his agoraphobia during the academy by forcing him to go through training sims until he stopped puking. This Bones also lost his father at a young age and never forgave himself for not being able to save him.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) This Bones gets Xenopolycythemia and Spock and Jim have to race to find a way to save him
2) Crossover with Doom where Bones is actually John Grimm and they're forced to go back to Olduvai where he proves how badass he is
3) There are repercussions for playing God as a doctor and Bones successfully brought Jim back to life - some nefarious parties are a little too interested
4) Bones and Jim met before, on Tarsus IV

Twister

Kate Carter: Kate has a lot of unresolved trauma from the death of the Tamers and I would love to see that explored. She definitely needs a whole hell of a lot of therapy. I would love if you were able to explore themes from before the incident and bring them into the present day.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) Kate is much more injured after El Reno than canon events lead us to believe and the Wranglers work together to get her back on her feet
2) Kate struggles to adjust back into storm chasing after the initial thrill of the first week is over, especially after El Reno, and needs help to work through her trauma
3) Kate goes back to school and works with her old professors, Jo and Bill Harding
4) Kate's aunt and uncle are Dusty and Melissa, Tyler's are Jo and Bill - chaos ensues

9-1-1

Evan "Buck" Buckley: I headcanon Buck as having ADHD with a strong amount of RSD. He has intimacy issues and trust issues. He is also impulsive and can be reckless with both his own physical well-being and the mental/emotional well-being of the people he loves because he doesn't always think things through. I am a big believer in no forgiveness for the Buckley parents after how they treat both their children.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) Exploring the actual repercussions of what happens when a therapist sleeps with a client (that is ASSAULT) and the emotional fallout of Buck realizing what happened
2) Buck shuts down after the lawsuit, having to deal with bills and the like after being removed from disability - Bobby and Athena find out and try to fix things. (Yes, Buck should have gone to the union first and yes it was a bad move but he also had cause and, as much as I love Bobby, he basically summarily dismissed Buck from his job by what he did. Also Buck won that case, that's not nothing)
3) Buck, May, and Harry are basically siblings - give me sibling shenanigans
4) Buck and Ravi become besties

Alice

Hatter: Depressed rebel? Yes please. Man willing to do anything for a girl he just met? Fantastic, give me 14 of them. I would love more exploration of Hatter's life in Wonderland, both pre and post Alice. A look into his tea-shop would be super cool, as well as explorations of the rest of the resistance.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) Hatter follows Alice into the real world but so does some the chaos of Wonderland (read Primeval type phenomenon) and they need to work together to prevent disaster
2) Alice stays in Wonderland and she and Hatter run a sort-of half-way house for Oysters who want to stay in Wonderland but struggle to adjust
3) Soul-mate AU

Jurassic Park

Alan Grant: Alan is a grumpy stick in the mud who'd rather play in dirt than deal with people. He's got a soft spot for kids even if he doesn't realize it. He also has hella PTSD from Jurassic Park.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) Alan hides away from everything after Jurassic Park, having a crisis due to the fact that his entire field of study has come to life and tried to eat him. Ellie and Ian have to bring him out of his shell
2) Alan is much more injured than he let on (after either movie) and collapses after they've been rescued
3) Alan gets stuck in a time loop during JP3 and can only escape when he realizes what he needs to fix. Meanwhile his heart breaks as he watches Billy die over and over and over again
4) Conversations between friends after Maisie lets the dinosaurs loose in North America.

Teen Wolf

Stiles Stilinski: Stiles has gone through a ridiculous amount of trauma in the series. His mom, the nogitsune, the wild hunt, everyone he knows almost killing him at some point... Exploring that trauma and how it impacts him is a love of mine. I headcanon him as magic somehow. He's also much more morally grey in my mind than a lot of the other main characters.

Potential storylines to explore:
1) Stiles is pushed out of the pack for some reason (to protect him, because he's weak, because they can't look at him after the Nogitsune - you pick) and leaves Beacon Hills. He becomes a powerful figure in the supernatural world in his own right and at some point the pack needs his help. If he decides to forgive them it takes a very long time and a lot of groveling
2) Stiles time-travels back to before everything went wrong. He stops the attack on Deucalion, the Hale fire... all of it. He's the only one left to remember and he's struggling. He's also stuck. He didn't disappear like he thought he would
3) Stiles bonds with Erica and Boyd in that basement. He becomes a human alpha for them and they stay to protect him
4) Stiles died in the Hale fire, he's a ghost that haunts both the characters and the narrative.

The X-Files

Dana Scully: Scully is a skeptic but believe in Mulder so much that she comes to believe. She is a woman of science and of faith. She is a woman in two professions dominated by men (doctor and FBI agent) and knows how to handle herself. She is also soft and kind and so, so good.

Potential storylines to follow:
1) Something changed after Mulder rescued Scully from the ship in Antarctica. They need each other in ways they hadn't let themselves before
2) After 6x21 Mulder and Scully have a hard time telling what's reality or not so they develop a system to check. One day it doesn't work
3) Scully is caught in a time loop, watching Mulder die over and over again
4) Life on the run after The Truth.
